How to run the test
- Click Start fullscreen test. Turn brightness up.
- Press Space or click the screen to advance through colors.
- Look for dots that don't match the background. On black look for bright dots; on white look for dark dots; on red/green/blue look for wrong-colored dots.
- Check every corner and edge — dead pixels hide in your peripheral vision.
FAQ
- What's the difference between a dead pixel and a stuck pixel?
- A dead pixel stays completely black because it receives no power — it looks like a tiny black dot on any color. A stuck pixel is permanently lit in one color (red, green, blue, or white) because one or more of its subpixels are frozen on. Stuck pixels can sometimes be recovered; dead pixels almost never can.
- How do I use this dead pixel test?
- Click Fullscreen, then cycle through each solid color. Look closely for any dot that doesn't match the background — a bright dot on a black screen, a dark dot on a white screen, or a wrong-colored dot on red/green/blue. Move your face close and check every corner.
- Does this work on phones, tablets, TVs, and monitors?
- Yes. It's just a browser page filling the screen with solid color, so it works on any device with a modern browser — iPhone, Android, iPad, laptop, external monitor, or a smart TV browser. On a TV, cast the tab or open the URL in the TV's built-in browser.
- Can I fix a stuck pixel?
- Sometimes. Rapidly cycling colors on the affected area for 10–30 minutes can un-stick subpixels by exercising them. Gently massaging the pixel through a soft cloth while the screen is off has also worked. Neither is guaranteed, and both should be attempted carefully.
- Is this test safe for OLED screens?
- For a short test (a few minutes) — yes. Avoid leaving any static full-brightness color on an OLED for extended periods, as that can cause temporary image retention. Cycle colors rather than parking on one.
