- How does this character counter count?
- Characters include every letter, number, space, punctuation mark, and line break. Words are runs of non-whitespace separated by spaces or line breaks. Sentences are split on . ! ? — informally, but reliable for most writing. Everything updates as you type.
- Does the count include spaces?
- Yes by default — that matches how Twitter/X, Bluesky, SMS, and most social platforms count characters. A separate 'without spaces' figure is shown for essays and word-count style limits.
- Does it work with emoji and non-English characters?
- Yes. The counter uses the same grapheme rules a modern browser uses, so a single emoji (👨👩👧) counts as one character, and accented / Chinese / Arabic characters count normally.
- Is my text uploaded anywhere?
- No. All counting happens inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, saved, or logged.
