AI Assignment Builder

Describe the work you need done. This tool will recommend a useful AI role, define its assignment, lens, guardrails, and finish line, and turn everything into a copy-ready prompt.

Works with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and most conversational AI assistants. Results vary between models. Learn why useful AI roles work — and why “act as an expert” often does not.

1Assignment

What useful work should the AI perform?

2Lens

Whose concerns should guide it?

3Guardrails

What should it preserve or avoid?

4Finish line

What must a successful answer contain?

No imaginary résumé required.

Describe the actual work, not the role you think the AI should play.

This answer strongly influences the recommended role.

Describe relevant experience, concerns, or circumstances rather than relying only on demographic labels.

How it works

Assignment:
What useful work should the AI perform?
Lens:
Whose concerns should guide it?
Guardrails:
What should it preserve or avoid?
Finish line:
What must a successful answer contain?

When a role helps

A role earns its place when the work involves judgment, prioritization, criticism, explanation, strategy, tone, or audience awareness. In those cases the role changes what the AI notices and what it treats as important. It does not install missing knowledge.

When to skip the role

For mechanical work — extracting, sorting, reformatting, or converting information you already supplied — a persona usually adds nothing. Clear instructions and a defined output format do the job.
